My name is Dylan Stan and I am currently in my third year at the University of British Columbia completing a degree in Psychology and Philosophy. Mushrooms have been an interest in mine for years and my involvement began three years ago when I joined the Vancouver Mycological society. On top of their monthly meetings, I attended a number of forays, nature walks with the aim of identifying as many mushrooms as we can find.

My first experience with growing was when I ordered inoculated sawdust blocks online and grew shiitake mushrooms, golden oyster mushrooms, and pink oyster mushrooms. I continued on to build a glove box and practised sterile tissue culture on agar plates with a number of mushroom species as well as growing oyster mushrooms of toilet paper rolls and reishi off compressed sawdust. I have learned increasingly more about mushroom cultivation over the past year and I look forward to sharing my knowledge and resources!
